Mohammad Sarwar as a Biographer and Disseminator of Obaid Ullah Sindhi’s Ideology: A Historical Study

Abstract

Muhammad Sarwar is one of the prominent journalists, intellectuals, and writers of the twentieth century whose intellectual formation was influenced by the religious, national, and reformist movements of the subcontinent. His personality and thought were deeply influenced by the Khilafat Movement, the Non-Cooperation Movement, the reformist teachings of Shah Waliullah Dehlvi, and the thoughts of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar, and above all, Maulana Ubaidullah Sindhi. His writings are conscious of national independence, Islamic renaissance, social justice and public rights.

Muhammad Sarwar was a student of Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, and he was fortunate to have teachers such as Dr Zakir Hussain and Maulana Abdul Hai Farooqi. Then he went to Egypt for higher education and learned from the thoughts of famous scholars like Ahmed Amin, Taha Hussain, and Muhammad Hussain Haikal.
