Abstract

This paper explores the rich socio-cultural and literary landscape of Nankana Sahib, tracing its historical evolution, communal traditions, and literary contributions. Historically known as "char terath," the region hosted diverse multi-faith festivals before transitioning into a central hub for Sikh cultural melas—such as Janamasthan, Besakhi, and Shaheedi—which fostered religious harmony, local arts, and regional economy. Concurrently, Nankana Sahib served as a cradle for prominent literary figures, including Baba Guru Nanak, Noori Kamboka, Sheikh Nankanvi, Raja Rasalo, Hanif Ramay, Prem Warburtoni, Younas Hasrat, and Rai Mohammad Khan Nasir. Through poetry, art, and activism, these individuals championed Punjabi language rights and reflected societal realities. The paper also examines the pivotal role of literary organizations—most notably Bazm-e-Tanveer-e-Adab—in nurturing regional discourse and preserving cultural identity through periods of post-partition displacement and social transformation.
