Abstract

The Metaverse has emerged as a transformative digital environment that enables organizations to deliver immersive and interactive marketing experiences through gamified advertising. However, limited research has examined its application within developing economies such as Pakistan. This study explores how gamified advertising in the Metaverse enhances customer engagement while identifying the challenges and opportunities associated with its adoption by Pakistani brands. A qualitative research design was employed, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 professionals from the marketing, advertising, retail, and technology sectors. The data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Three major themes emerged: enhanced customer engagement, challenges to adoption, and strategic opportunities for Pakistani brands. The findings indicate that gamified advertising strengthens emotional connections, encourages active consumer participation, and improves brand loyalty through immersive experiences. Nevertheless, technological infrastructure constraints, digital literacy gaps, and regulatory uncertainty remain significant barriers to implementation. The study contributes to the literature by extending the Theory of Engagement within the context of metaverse marketing and providing empirical evidence from an emerging economy. It also offers practical and policy recommendations for organizations seeking to leverage immersive technologies to enhance customer engagement and achieve sustainable competitive advantage.
