Abstract

This study critically evaluates the decades-long Sino-US strategic relationship, which has evolved since the 20th-century Cold War, from the USA’s policy of containment to tactical alignment and, subsequently, transformed into a multi-domain, full-spectrum rivalry in contemporary times. The most consequential enmity to unfold in the 21st century is between old partners who once stood together against a common rival, the United States, a dominant power, now facing rising power China as a strategic competitor.
