Cultural Embodied Metaphors of Head in Sindhi and Lasi Languages

Abstract

This study explores the body-part metaphors of Lasi culture in the field of cultural linguistics. This study aims to analyze how abstract ideas are expressed in a culture using body-part metaphors especially “head”. The data for this study was collected in two phases, first in classroom discussion and second outside the class during informal small group discussions among native Lasi speakers. There total 16 participants were taken for this study. The findings shows a variety of themes in the metaphorical usage of body-part head, such as head being used to show intelligence, wisdom, control, memory, machine, honor, anger etc. The findings suggest strong connection between language, culture and cognition.
