This research article investigates the contribution of Javed Iqbal Afgaar to the tradition of contemporary Pashto Tazkira writing, with a particular focus on his literary significance as a modern Tazkira writer. Afgaar is a contemporary Pashto literary figure who has made meaningful contributions across multiple genres of literature; however, his work in Tazkira writing stands out due to its innovative structure, intellectual depth, and modern critical approach.
His notable Tazkiras, including Khair-ul-Abrar-e-Nabi, Amil-da-Guloono, Mawaddat, Da Guloono Peshawara, and Pakhtunkhwa Guloona, reflect a renewed vision of Pashto Tazkira tradition. These works go beyond mere biographical documentation by incorporating elements of literary criticism, cultural consciousness, and social awareness. Afgaar’s balanced approach to portraying literary personalities—combining narrative detail with analytical insight—distinguishes his Tazkiras from classical models.
The study analyzes the thematic dimensions, stylistic characteristics, and research value of Afgaar’s Tazkira writings and argues that his contributions have significantly enriched contemporary Pashto literature. The findings indicate that Javed Iqbal Afgaar occupies an important position in modern Pashto Tazkira writing and that his works offer a strong foundation for future research in this genre.
