Abstract

This article delves into the intricate phenomenon of Lexical Mixing within the context of Pakistani English, shedding light on distinctive linguistic patterns and sociolinguistic influences. Employing a comprehensive morphological evaluation, the study distinguishes Lexical Mixing from Code-Switching, emphasizing its unique features at the lexical level. Through an examination of various linguistic examples, such as "Nikkahfied," which blends the Urdu term "Nikkah" with the English suffix "-fied," the research explores the practical implications for language teaching, addressing a notable gap in applied linguistics and offering educators insights for culturally relevant language education. Examining the usage and impact of newly coined terms resulting from Lexical Mixing, such as "Nikkahfied," enriches our understanding of linguistic creativity in Pakistani English. This analysis contributes to broader discussions on language evolution and cultural representation, emphasizing the dynamic nature of language within this specific linguistic context. Beyond academic realms, the research holds practical relevance by providing guidance for individuals using or learning Pakistani English, fostering more effective and culturally sensitive communication. Overall, this qualitative and observed- based analysis contributes to a deeper appreciation of the linguistic richness of Pakistani English while promoting inclusive language policies that celebrate linguistic diversity.
