A Comparative Study of Traditional Teaching Methods and AI-Based Pedagogical Strategies in Language Learning

The rapid unification of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has changed language pedagogy methods globally. AI driven tools like Grammarly, supports feedback, assisted by the tools and individual level grammar study. However learning outcomes of these AI tools evaluated against traditional teaching methods are scarcely analyzed, specially at the secondary level. This study compares the importance of traditional teaching methods with AI driven pedagogical methods to improve the competence of learners specially in learning English tenses. A quantitative analysis design was taken. 50 secondary students were part of the research. They were classified into two groups , one was controlled while the other was experimental group. Controlled group was taught tenses with traditional pedagogical method while experimental group was taught tenses through AI driven method, using Grammarly. Pre and post tests were conducted and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results showed that both methods helped in improvement, traditional teaching lead to higher and more consistent progress in tense usage accuracy. AI based method supported self reflection and self directed learning while giving instant feedbacks according to students’ level of understanding, but it lacked teacher’s conceptual instructions and assistance. The study investigation reveals that AI tools are supporting material rather than replacement for traditional instructions
