Farmers' Perceptions Regarding Agricultural Wastes: A Case Study of Tehsil Tandlianwala

Agricultural wastes are byproducts of the production and processing of agricultural goods; they may contain components that are useful to humans, but their economic value is lower than the expense of collecting, transportation, and processing for such purposes. Utilization of agricultural waste as feed has many benefits for both the agricultural and livestock aspects. Farmers recognized fertility, reliability and low cost of agriculture waste as an advantage. Utilization of agricultural waste as feed has many benefits for both the agricultural crops and livestock aspects. Agricultural waste otherwise called agro-waste that is comprised of animal waste, crops reused and food processing waste. The aim of this study to judge the Farmers' perceptions regarding use of agricultural wastes: a case study of Tehsil Tandlianwala District Faisalabad. Agricultural wastes are generated from a number of sources notably from crop residues and livestock and residues of fruits and vegetables. There is total 28 union councils in Tehsil Tandlianwala both rural and urban; out of 28 union councils 3 union councils are urban and 25 union councils are rural. From 25 union councils of rural, one rural union council was selected through convenient sampling technique. One union council 420GB was selected and two villages 418 GB, 419 GB had been selected from 420GB union council. The target population is 570. The sample size 146 has been determined through www.surveysystem.com by keeping confidence level 95% and confidence interval 7%. The data were collected through well-structured interview schedule. Convenient sampling technique was used for data collection. The collected data was be analyzed by using computer software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). For the purpose of gathering information on pre-defined objectives, a valid and trustworthy interview schedule was created. The analysis of data revealed that most of the respondents have farming as source of income. Mostly (70%) of the respondents belonged to low-income families. Most of the respondents were illiterate. Data also shows that most of the farmers were small farmers (less than 12.5 acers). Most of the respondents don’t know how and which cops waste use of agriculture waste almost 68%. They have less aware about the use of agriculture waste but they have aware the benefits of the use of agriculture waste. The 59.6% of respondents agreed that use of agriculture waste enhance the crops productions and the results of frequency is 59.6% respondents were 87. 40.4% of respondents were not agreeing that use of agriculture waste enhance the soil erosion and frequency of the 40.4% respondents were 59. Farmers' perception of the fulfillment of livestock needs is in a different category, namely medium in the paddy field location and high in the plantation location. In terms of farmers' ability, perceptions of farmers in the plantation area are in the high category while in the paddy filed area are in the medium category.
